Be winter ready : Skin care tips

Its that time of the year to slip in those warm & cozy clothes and snuggle in blankets. And it is also that time of the year when the skin is as dry as the sahara desert and requires a lot of pampering. Here are some tips that will help you all in combating with winter related skin issues.

1. Oil massage before taking bath:

Prior taking bath , massage your face and body with oil. You can use almond oil , coconut oil , sesame oil etc. Skin can become too dry and tight after washing with water , so by giving it a massage with oil before bathing will help locking in some moisture.

2. Milk cream + turmeric massage :

Instead of using oil , you can opt to massage with milk cream with some turmeric powder. Milk cream moisturizes the skin well leaving it baby soft  while turmeric makes it clean , fresh and light.

Instructions:

  • Just  take some cream  (quantity depends on whether you are using it on face or body ; for face u can take 2-3 teaspoons)
  • Mix ½ teaspoon of turmeric in it .
  • Apply on face and massage well for about 7-8 mins.
  • After massaging leave for about 15mins and wash off with lukewarm water.

3. Moisturize right after taking bath :

Apply moisturiser right after taking bath because the skin absorbs it quickly and remains hydrated for a long time. Avoid using moisturisers with lots of chemical and a strong fragrance ,  instead go for one which has vitamin E in it.

4. Scrub  once a week :

Exfoliating skin helps in removing dead skin cells which can make the skin look dull and sometimes patchy so it is advisable to exfoliate at least once a week. However , do not use a scrub with  harsh , thick , hard granules as excessive scrubbing can strip skin off its natural oils .Also do not do it daily , just once or twice a week is fine. Better use a homemade scrub with ingredients having good moisturizing properties. You can use oatmeal / rice powder /apricot etc and mix either with raw milk or milk cream.

5.Moisturize area around eyes:

The area around eyes gets too dry sometimes which might lead to forming wrinkles .Late nights and  sitting in front on computer for prolonged hours only adds to the woes. So keep it as hydrated and moisturised as possible. You can massage it with almond oil , coconut oil or even milk cream .Aloe vera gel will ease the puffiness and tiredness of eyes.

6.Moisturize lips :

Lips are the worst effected body part in winters due to the absence of oil glands in them. So it is very important to keep them moisturized round the clock to prevent them from drying , peeling and getting dark. Avoid lip products with harsh  chemicals and opt for those enriched with vitamin E. You can use natural ingredients like milk cream ,honey etc. Like skin exfoliating lips is also necessary however it should be done very gently  (detailed post on lip care coming shoon).

 7.Use Vitamin E products:

Vitamin E is considered good for skin , so along with taking vitamin e supplements (only if you have been advised to or have no allergy/side effect to it) , you can include products enriched with it in your daily regime.Pick up products like foundation ,body lotions ,moisturizers,  face creams , lipsticks  etc which have vitamin e as the key ingredient.

8. Stay hydrated and do not forget to use a good sun screen:

Low temperature means low intake of water. But our body needs equal amount of water as it does in any other season.Drink water at regular intervals and be hydrated .Also ,the sun rays are as harsh and harmful in winter as they are in any other season. So do not put that sunblock away and use it daily.

Hope you all would like the tips and include them in your daily regime.

Have a great weekend ahead ! 🙂

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 50+

When it comes to buying skin care products , I hardly ever look beyond Neutrogena. Their products have never disappointed me and this is the reason I keep going back to them. So when it came to buying a new sunblock , I knew I  had to look no further Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock with SPF 50+ .

Neutrogena ultra sheen dry touch sunblock spf 50+

Neutrogena ultra sheen dry touch sunblock spf 50+

What the product claims:

Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 50+ is a revolutionary, dermatologist-tested formula that contains Helioplex technology, the latest breakthrough in UV protection.Helioplex delivers unbeatable UVA protection. It works better to help prevent damaging UVA rays from penetrating deep under skin’s surface. Dry-Touch technology absorbs excess sunscreen oils, leaving a clean, lightweight, non-shiny finish.Serious sun protection never felt this light on your skin. This product features Helioplex, a breadth of stabilised sunscreen technologies that delivers superior protection from the sun.

  • Waterproof , sweatproof , resists rub-off
  • PABA-free and oil free
  • Non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores)

Directions (as given on tube) : Apply liberally on face and body 15-30 minutes before sun exposure .For added protection , reapply after swimming  , towel dry or extended sun exposure.

My views:

So does it really live up to it’s claims?? My answer would be a big YES!!!!!. It has become a HG sunblock for me and I can’t even think of stepping out of house without applying this.

It does live up to all the claims it makes  and  not only provides a solid protection against the harsh sunrays but also moisturizes the skin well and keeps it hydrated throughout the day without making it look greasy. So people with normal-oily skin can skip wearing a moisturizer.

The problem with many sunscreens or any cream with spf content is the white cast that they leave behind on face which can make your face look ashy and ghost-like in flash photography. Fortunately this sunblock doesn’t leave behind any such white cast and just gives  a slight glow without any trace of oil. It also keeps the face sweat free to a good extent and lasts quite long. If you’re going to be out in the sun for too long , reapplication after 4-5 hours maybe required.

It has a very nice mild fragrance that lingers around for a while ,so people with sensitive nose have nothing to worry about .It scores well in the packaging department as well .The tube  is travel friendly and doesn’t get messy around the nozzle. The quantity is also good for the price it comes at but many stores seem to have stopped stocking the smaller sized tube. I don’t know whether it has been discontinued by the company itself , because  it’s available on many online websites . I got my tube back in May this year from a Neutrogena store ; just when I was about to walk out of the store not wanting to buy the bigger sized tube the SA stopped me and gave the smaller variant saying that it was the last piece left with them .:| 😛

Shelf life : 24 months from Mfd.

Price : Rs.175 for 30ml.

Rs.499 for 88ml.

Rating: 4.5/5 .

Neutrogena Gentle Daily Cleanser Review

Image

I normally am hesitant when buying facial cleansers because I feel they would ruin my skin. However, after hearing many raves about this product from my aunt I figured I should try this out. I knew this wouldn’t be harsh on my skin since its specifically supposed to be a gentle cleanser. I would say overall this is a good product and worth a try. I like the fact that it instantly removes makeup and doesn’t dry out my skin completely compared to the other cleaners I have tried.

Price: Around $7

5 Great Ways To Use Coconut Oil!

Image

Make sure to use pure coconut oil. I like to use Parachute Coconut Oil . You can find this at any Indian grocery stores.

Plus this will be a cheaper!

1.  Eye Makeup Remover: Coconut oil is a great way to use as a makeup remover without breaking out. Take a cotton swab and pour some coconut oil on it, then use it wherever makeup applied. Removes eyeliner/mascara very quick 🙂

2. Hair Deep Conditioner:  Heat up some coconut oil in a bowl and then massage the oil onto your hair. Leave it overnight and wash it off the next day. Do this once or twice a week but not everyday!

3.Eyelash Strengthener: Whenever I remove my mascara, I like to dab on some coconut oil on my eyelashes. This conditions the eyelashes and helps to become stronger.

4.Shaving Cream:  Instead of using shaving creams, use coconut oil which will also moisturize your skin.

5. Cuticle Oil : Dab some coconut oil on where there is dry skin on your fingers this will help them look nice & healthy 🙂
